AAKRUTI is Dassault Systèmes Foundation Nationwide Product Design Contest. AAKRUTI was launched in 2011 and has received tremendous response from all over India in the last 7 years. Each year brings forth a different theme with students surpassing the expectations with their innovative designs and ideas.

The objective of AAKRUTI is to reach out to the engineering colleges and universities across India and make them aware about latest trends in the Product Design and Manufacturing domain. AAKRUTI encourages students to showcase their design skills, creativity and innate talent and to use this contest as a platform to design a product that can be commercially manufactured which can eventually benifit the nation.

AAKRUTI is well amalgamated with Dassault Systèmes Foundation’s vision to promote the advancement of excellence and skill enhancement in all aspects of engineering, technology and design while fostering innovation.

Participating students can use product design applications of their choice, Dassault Systèmes will offer a license of SOLIDWORKS education edition to all the registered teams for the necessary time, to all participants asking for it to design and simulate their product ideas.

  • Interested teams should register for the AAKRUTI2018 using the Registration link

  • After successful registration, students may download SOLIDWORKS student version. Download link and installation instructions will be sent to all the registered teams.

  • Teams need to submit their complete design with details to pass the evaluation criteria before last date of Model submission.

  • Teams submitting detailed design will only be considered as Qualifying Entries. Details for models submission will be communicated through e-mail.

  • Final Day Event will be held at Dassault Systèmes R&D Center, Pune.

  • Top 10 teams will be shortlisted for the Final Day Event. Their names will be announced in last week of September 2018, on the website and the teams will also be informed by e-mail.

  • These shortlisted teams will have to present their innovative design in front of eminent jury panel. 15 minutes time will be provided to each team to present their designs. The Jury’s questions round will also have weightage while compiling the results for the Top three winning teams.

  • The results will be declared by the jury panel followed by the prize distribution ceremony on the same day.

  • All the shortlisted teams, travelling to Pune for final day event, can claim a travel expense reimbursement maximum or equivalent to second AC train fare by providing the original tickets. The teams should reach Pune on one day before the Final Day Event. Accommodation for the night (Final Day Event) will be provided by Dassault Systèmes Foundation.

  • The shortlisted teams will have to carry their College Identity Card/Bonafide Certificate from their college when they report for the Final Day Event along with registration e-mail.


Product submission is the next stage in the contest process. This stage is divided into two parts.
  • PART I : Initial Design Concept Submission

  • PART II : Final Product Submission

PART I : Initial Design Concept Submission
  • In this round registered teams are required to provide basic concept layout of their product idea, guidelines for which has been mentioned in the Initial Design Concept template.

  • It is mandatory to answer all the sections in the Initial design concept template (To download the template click on the "Initial Design Concept Template" button below)

  • The last date for the submission of initial design concept is on 24th August, 2018.

PART II :Final Product Submission
  • In this round all the registered teams are required to submit complete details of their product. Final product submission data must contain following :

    1. DIY report (Sample DIY report will be available to download soon)

    2. CAD Models and Drawings

    3. Power Point Presentation

    4. Relevant data (Simulation Reports, Costing report, Calculation report, Rendered images)

  • Detailed procedure for uploading the Final Product Data will be communicated to all the teams after 24th Augest, 2018

  • The last date for the submission of Final Product Submission is on 16th September, 2018.

This year the evaluation of the product designs will be mainly based on two criteria
  • Design content

  • DIY (Do It Yourself) – Manufacturing content

Design Content Criteria – Design of the product will be evaluated on the basis of :
  • Creativity, originality of design concept

  • Feasibility of design, design validations, design calculations.

  • Any workable/minimum viable prototype made

  • Simulations done (CAE/CFD/Kinematic Analysis etc.)

  • Use of Product Design application tools for Modelling, Visualization, rendering of the product and modelling design integrity.

DIY Manufacturing Content Criteria–(Do It Yourself – Ready for manufacturing Digital content of designed Product):
  • For presented product or idea, teams needs to submit Manufacturing Digital content.

  • This digital content should be a project report with complete manufacturing details of each component which makes the product ready to manufacture even by Village level artisan /craftsmen.

  • Product manufacturing feasibility and approximate cost calculations of each component along with final product.

This year Underlying theme brings forth –

“How YOUR innovative ideas can be taken to masses and provide them in a form so that it can be even manufactured at any village. Any artisan in a rural area should be able to manufacture the innovative product and make it available for local community.”

Hence we request all the innovators to come forward and contribute for the betterment of community and utilize your creativity, knowledge and skills to help a needy.

Team needs to submit their Design, Presentations and supporting manufacturing details aligned with themes before last week of August.

  • Any duplicate/existing product design/idea or Copyright ideas/design will stand for rejection.

  • The design can either be an improved existing product, a brand new product or a machine or an entire solution architecture itself.

  • The Product Design Idea must be compatible for Manufacturing and ready to use.

  • Content will not have any copyright of Team/Team member/College or any individual person

  • Team agrees to share this digital content on an open forum for utilization by masses (if feasible). We will ensure that due credits are given to respective teams.


  • A ‘Certificate of Participation” will be given to all the qualified entries who will submit the complete models and product report.

  • A ‘Certificate of Excellence’ will be given to top ten teams.

  • Juries decisions and results will be final and binding on all.


  • Last Date for Registration - 6th August, 2018

  • Last date for Final Product Submission - 16th September, 2018

  • Announcement of Finalist Teams - 25th September, 2018

  • Final Day Event at Pune - 8th October, 2018
